Privacy Policy for Gallery X-Ray
This Privacy Policy describes how Gallery X-Ray ("the app") handles information when you use the Android application package xraygallery.gante.
Overview
The app is designed to scan text from your local photo gallery and make that text searchable on your device. It also offers an optional premium unlock through Google Play Billing to remove the free indexing cap.
The app does not require you to create an account and does not ask you to submit your name, email address, contacts, photos, or location directly to the developer.
Photo text recognition and search indexing happen locally on your device. The app is not designed to upload your photos or recognized text to the developer's servers.
Information stored on your device
To provide its features, the app stores the following data locally on your device:
- recognized text extracted from photos you allow the app to index;
- search tokens used to find indexed photos quickly;
- photo metadata needed to show search results, such as asset id, local path, and creation date;
- preferences such as whether the privacy notice was dismissed and which folders you chose to index;
- purchase state needed to unlock premium features when reported by Google Play Billing.
The app stores this information only to make local search and premium state work on the device.
Permissions used by the app
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES on Android 13 and above to access photos you choose to index.
- READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and below to access local images for indexing.
- BILLING to process premium purchases through Google Play Billing.
The app does not request camera, microphone, contacts, precise location, or background location permissions.
Photo indexing and OCR
Text recognition is performed on-device using Google ML Kit Text Recognition. Recognized text is used to build a local searchable index. The developer does not receive a remote copy of your images or the text extracted from them.
Photo deletion and sharing
If you choose the delete action in the app, the selected photo is deleted from your device gallery through the Android media framework and removed from the app's local index. If you use the share action, the selected file is handed to the app you choose through the Android share system.
Purchases and Google Play Billing
Premium purchases are processed through Google Play Billing. When you make or restore a purchase, Google may process purchase-related and technical data under its own terms and privacy policies.
The app uses this purchase information only to determine whether premium features should be available on your device.
Data sharing
The developer does not sell your personal data. The app is not designed to upload your photos, recognized text, or search index to the developer's servers.
Third-party services provided by Google, such as Google Play Billing and Google Play app distribution infrastructure, may process data as needed to deliver their services.
Analytics and advertising
The app does not include advertising SDKs. It is also not designed to send analytics events or usage tracking data to the developer.
Data retention and deletion
The local text index and preferences remain on your device until you clear the app's data, change indexed content, or uninstall the app.
You can delete indexed photos from within the app or remove all local app data through Android system settings. Because the developer does not operate a server for this app, the developer does not maintain a separate server-side copy of your indexed data.
Purchase status is handled through Google Play Billing and may remain associated with your Google account according to Google's systems and policies.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13. If the target audience selection changes in Google Play Console in the future, this policy should be reviewed and updated accordingly.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Material updates will be reflected on this page by changing the "Last updated" date.
