Privacy Policy for Clean Scanner
This Privacy Policy describes how Clean Scanner ("the app") handles information when you use the Android application package cleanscanner.gante.
Overview
The app is designed to scan physical documents using your device camera and convert them into PDF files. It also offers optional text recognition (OCR) as a premium feature.
The app does not require you to create an account and does not ask you to submit your name, email address, contacts, photos, or location directly to the developer. The only exception is feedback you decide to send by email, described below.
All document processing, including scanning, PDF generation, and text recognition, happens entirely on your device. The app does not transmit your documents, images, or extracted text to any server.
Information stored on your device
To provide its features, the app stores the following data locally on your device:
- scanned document PDF files in the app's private storage;
- thumbnail preview images of your scanned documents;
- document metadata such as title, creation date, and page count;
- purchase state needed to unlock premium features when reported by Google Play Billing.
This information is used to make the app work and display your scanned documents. All files are stored in the app's private storage directory, which is not accessible to other apps.
Permissions used by the app
- BILLING — to process Pro subscription purchases through Google Play Billing.
- INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — declared by Google libraries the app builds on: Google Play Billing, which talks to Google Play to verify purchases, and the Google ML Kit components, which include Google's own operational logging channel. The app's own code makes no network requests, and neither permission is used to upload your documents or scanned content.
The app itself does not declare a camera, storage, contacts, precise location, or microphone permission. Document capture is performed by the Google Play services document scanner in its own secure interface, so the camera is handled by Google Play services and not by a camera permission held by this app. Importing existing pictures uses the Android photo picker, which lets you grant access only to the images you select without a broad storage permission.
If the Google scanner cannot run on your device, the app offers to take a photo with your camera app through the standard Android capture screen. That photo is written only to the app's private storage, where you crop it into a PDF, and the temporary copy is then removed.
When you share an image or a PDF to Clean Scanner from another app, the app receives only the files you shared, copies them into its private storage and adds them to your library. They are processed on your device like any other import.
Document scanning and text recognition
Document scanning uses Google ML Kit Document Scanner, which runs entirely on your device through Google Play services. Google Play services may download the scanner component the first time it is needed. Camera frames are processed locally for document detection, cropping, and image enhancement. No images are sent to Google servers during scanning.
Text recognition (OCR), available as a Pro feature, uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition for the Latin alphabet, which is included in the app. Text extraction from your PDF pages is performed on-device. The extracted text is held in memory and is not stored permanently unless you choose to share it.
PDF password protection and local backup (Pro)
PDF password protection encrypts the selected document on your device using a password you choose. The password is used only to encrypt and open that file; it is not stored by the app and is never transmitted.
The local backup feature lets you export your documents as a single ZIP archive to a location you pick through the Android document picker, and restore them later. A backup is created only when you start it and is written only to the destination you select. Nothing is uploaded to the developer or any server automatically.
Purchases and Google Play Billing
Premium purchases and subscriptions are processed through Google Play Billing. When you make or restore a purchase, Google may process purchase-related and technical data under its own terms and privacy policies.
The app uses this purchase information only to determine whether premium features should be available on your device.
Data sharing
The developer does not sell your personal data. The app is not designed to upload your documents, images, or personal files to the developer's servers.
When you use the share or open function, the app provides the selected PDF file to the app you choose through the Android share system. The handling of that file is then governed by the receiving app.
Third-party services provided by Google, such as Google Play Billing and Google Play app distribution infrastructure, may process data as needed to deliver their services.
Analytics and advertising
The app does not include any analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs of its own. The developer receives only the aggregated statistics and crash reports that Google Play provides to every app developer, and no usage data, device identifiers, or behavioral information about you from the app itself.
The Google libraries the app is built on — Google Play Billing and Google ML Kit — carry Google's own operational logging. For the ML Kit components, including the text recognition that is bundled into the app and runs in the app's process, Google collects diagnostic information such as device and app details, installation identifiers, and performance metrics about how those components work. This logging carries no document content, is sent to Google (not to the developer), and is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Ratings and feedback
After you have saved a few documents, the app may ask Google Play to show its standard rating card. The card is displayed by Google Play, and any rating or review you leave is handled by Google Play under Google's terms and published on the store like any other review. The app does not see what you rate.
If you choose Send feedback, the app opens your email app with a message addressed to cleanscanner@gi-gante.com. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. Besides what you write, the prepared message contains only the app version, the Android version and the device model, which help to reproduce problems; it never includes document names, files, or their contents. Your email address and message are used only to answer you and to fix problems, and are deleted when they are no longer needed for that.
Data retention and deletion
Scanned documents, thumbnails, and metadata are stored locally on your device and are retained only for as long as they remain in the app's local storage.
You can delete individual documents at any time from within the app. You can also remove all app data by clearing the app's data in Android system settings or by uninstalling the app.
Because the developer does not operate a server for this app, the developer does not maintain any server-side copy of your documents or data.
Purchase status is handled through Google Play Billing and may remain associated with your Google account according to Google's systems and policies.
The app disables Android's automatic cloud backup for its data
(android:allowBackup is set to false), so your scanned
documents, thumbnails, and metadata are not copied to system or cloud
backups by Android. The only way to back up your documents is the in-app
local backup export described above, which you initiate and control.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Material updates will be reflected on this page by changing the "Last updated" date.
